How To Clean Interior Walls Of A House?

You can use a great cleaning strategy to make your walls and wallpaper sparkle as though they were brand new.

How to dust walls

You will need to dust your walls often. This is possible with a broom that’s covered with a microfiber dusting cloth or a lambswool duster. Start from the top and aim down to the floor. Be sure to target the corners with extra care. You can also use the bristle brush accessory on your vacuum cleaner on your walls. Move your cleaning tool horizontally to get the dust that may accumulate at the top of the wall and the ceiling.

This is the way you clean painted walls

Make sure to clean the entire wall thoroughly. Get rid of any paintings or other wall hangings before you clean the walls. Make sure to keep the hooks as dry as possible when cleaning the wall. Move any furniture far away before you start. Start by dusting the walls. This will prevent the walls from becoming muddy when you clean them. Also, place towels on the floor near the edges of the walls.

For best results, use a water-based solution when cleaning walls with a satin or a semi-gloss finish. Mix 2 ounces of liquid dishwashing detergent with one gallon of water. Use plain warm water for rinsing the sponge while cleaning. Wash the walls from bottom to top and from side to side while standing on a step ladder. This will keep water from dripping down and leaving muddy/dirty streaks on your walls when you are cleaning. Use a sponge dipped in clean warm water to rinse the walls. Be sure to dry the walls thoroughly with a clean and dry sponge.

Use this solution if the walls are extremely dirty:

  • 1 gallon of water
  • 1 cup of clear ammonia that doesn’t sud easily
  • 1 cup of borax or washing soda
  • 1 cup of white vinegar

Be sure to spot-check how strong the cleaning solution is before you start. This will keep you from accidentally damaging your walls. Spot check on an area that will be hidden by furniture or a wall hanging. Be sure to use a clean white cloth. This will help you determine if the cleaning solution is removing any of the paint on the walls. DON’T use the cleaning solution if the spot check shows apparent damage!

The best ways to clean wallpaper

You need to be gentle when cleaning wallpaper. This is especially true if you have older wallpaper in your house because it can be easily damaged. Use a lambswool duster or a broom covered in a microfiber dusting cloth to dust the wallpaper. Use a dry sponge from a hardware store to clean the wallpaper. Use long strokes when doing this.

Use a sponge and soapy water when cleaning washable wallpaper. Be sure to use a damp sponge and gentle strokes. Rub dry gently with a clean and dry washcloth. Be sure to clean your doors and the corners of your windows and clean the trim on your doors and windows with a mild cleaner.
